Overview
A flexible ski mountaineering coaching experience in the Dolomites, Brenta and Adamello. Rather than following a fixed itinerary, we shape each day around your level, your objectives and the conditions we find. From refining ski touring movement to using crampons, ropework or steeper ground, the idea is simple: develop your skills in a structured and enjoyable way, directly on real terrain.
This trip suits competent off-piste skiers who would like to take a measured step towards ski mountaineering. The pace is progressive rather than extreme, and the content can be adjusted according to what you would like to focus on – confidence, technical skills or preparation for future alpine goals.
Prior to the trip we discuss your aims and the number of days (usually 3 - 4). Each morning we meet in the chosen area – Dolomites, Brenta or Adamello – check equipment together and select the most sensible objective based on snow, weather and avalanche considerations.
We move at a steady pace, giving space for coaching, feedback and short skills sessions throughout the day. The tone remains calm and professional: thoughtful decision-making, gradual progression and time to simply enjoy the mountains.
Being in Italy, good food and warm hospitality naturally complement the experience – whether it is a hut stop for coffee or a relaxed drink once we return to the valley.
Whether this is your first step beyond classic ski touring or preparation for more committed routes in the future, this coaching format allows us to build the days around you, with good judgement, clarity and enjoyment at the core.
Itinerary
-
Day 1Building solid foundations
This is only a sample programme - the actual objectives are planned together based on your experience, preferences and the conditions of the day.
The first day is about building a solid base. We focus on efficient uphill skinning, working on pace, rhythm, track setting and kick turns, as well as time and energy management over the course of a full day in the mountains.
Downhill, the focus is on off-piste skiing in variable snow. We work on adapting technique and line choice to the snow and terrain we actually encounter, improving control and flow rather than forcing a single style.
Throughout the day we address avalanche risk reduction, covering transceiver checks, search practice and shovel and probe use, with a strong emphasis on linking the avalanche bulletin to terrain choices and on-the-ground decision-making.
This day sets the foundation for everything that follows.
-
Day 2More complex terrain and transitions
On the second day the terrain becomes more demanding. Ascents are longer and more continuous, requiring more careful track setting, efficient traverses and clean transitions.
We introduce the use of crampons and ice axe, focusing on when they are appropriate, how to manage ski-to-foot transitions, basic movement on steeper snow and carrying skis on the backpack.
Downhill, we continue to refine skiing technique on steeper slopes, paying attention to spacing, terrain reading and group management.
-
Day 3Glacier travel: rope and movement in a roped team
The third day is dedicated to glacier travel.
On a simple glacier we work on roping up, rope management and communication within the team. We practise travelling roped on skis and managing changes in slope angle and more exposed sections.
The focus is on risk reduction in glaciated terrain: reading the glacier, identifying crevasses and snow bridges, and choosing appropriate lines.
We also introduce the fundamentals of crevasse rescue, including fall arrest, organisation of the rescue and clear roles within the rope team, always with a practical, real-world approach.
-
Day 4A complete ski mountaineering tour
The final day is a full ski mountaineering tour, chosen according to conditions in areas such as Adamello or Ortles-Cevedale.
We plan the day together, from the avalanche bulletin and weather forecast to route choice, alternatives and margins.
During the tour we integrate all elements: efficient uphill travel, rope use on glaciers, roped team management, skiing in glaciated terrain and emergency management, including crevasse rescue if conditions allow.
This day brings the whole course together.
